The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has recovered the bodies of three victims from a collapsed two-storey building in Ikorodu area of Lagos State.
The victims, identified as two adult males and a teenage girl, were part of a construction team working on the ground floor when the structure gave way on Tuesday afternoon around 2:00 p.m.
According to LASEMA, the first body was recovered shortly after the incident occurred, while the remaining two victims were retrieved during an extended search operation that continued into the early hours of Wednesday.
Witnesses reported hearing a thunderous sound as the building collapsed, which immediately drew the attention of residents and passersby to the scene.
Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, confirmed the incident and stated that the recovered bodies have been handed over to officers from the Igbogbo Police Division to support ongoing investigations into the cause of the structural failure.
The building was still under construction at the time of the collapse, raising questions about construction standards and building safety protocols in the area.
This incident adds to the growing list of building collapses in Lagos State, highlighting ongoing concerns about structural integrity and adherence to building regulations across Nigeria's most populous city.
Authorities have yet to release an official statement regarding the cause of the collapse as investigations continue.
