President Bola Tinubu has appointed new members to the governing councils of three federal universities - University of Abuja (UNIABUJA), University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), and Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka (NAU).

The announcement was made on Tuesday through a statement signed by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.

For the University of Abuja, the appointment comes three months after President Tinubu dissolved the previous governing council and removed the university's vice chancellor, Aisha Maikudi, following controversies regarding her eligibility.

New Governing Council Appointments

The newly appointed governing council members for the University of Abuja include:

- Prof. Rosemary Iriowen Egonmwan (South South)
- Dr. Adedeji Adefuye (South West)
- Prof. Sarki Abba Abdulkadir (North West)
- Prof. Aminu Mohammed Dukku (North East)

For the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), the president appointed:

- Rt. Hon. Barr. Ogbonna Eugene Odo (South East)
- Muhammad Inuwa Tahir (North West)

The new governing council members for Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka (NAU) are:

- Dr. Nkem Okeke (South East)
- Ofoke Chukwuma Charles Ugbala (South East)
- Dame Amina Patrick Yakowa (North West)
- Nojeeb Oriola Agunbiade (South West)

These appointments reflect President Tinubu's ongoing efforts to restructure leadership within Nigeria's federal universities and ensure proper governance of these institutions.

The appointments also demonstrate a geographical balance with representatives from various geopolitical zones serving on each university's governing council.
