A police officer was injured during a failed attack by armed bandits on Tse-Abur village in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State on Monday, security sources have revealed.
According to information shared by security analyst Zagazola Makama on Tuesday, a group of seven armed bandits arrived in the community in a dark blue Peugeot 504 with tinted windows around 9:00 a.m. and opened fire on Mobile Police officers stationed in the area.
The attackers were swiftly repelled by a joint team of security forces, including mobile police personnel and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), who engaged the bandits in a heavy exchange of gunfire.
"The combined security forces responded swiftly, engaging the bandits in a heavy exchange of gunfire. Some of the bandits are believed to have sustained gunshot wounds as they fled with their vehicle," Makama wrote in his post on X (formerly Twitter).
During the confrontation, Sergeant Dakiki Vilyit of the 45 Police Mobile Force (PMF), Abuja, sustained a gunshot wound to his left leg. He was immediately rushed to General Hospital Ugba, where he is currently receiving medical treatment.
As of the time of this report, authorities have not issued an official statement regarding the attack. The incident marks another security challenge in Benue State, which has faced various forms of insecurity in recent years.
The successful repulsion of the attack highlights the effectiveness of collaboration between conventional security forces and local security initiatives like the CJTF in combating criminal activities in the region.
