The Pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, has appointed former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Oba Olu Falae, as the chairman of its National Executive Committee.

The announcement came following the group's monthly meeting held at the country home of its national leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, in Akure, Ondo State.

According to Afenifere's National Publicity Secretary, Jare Ajayi, who briefed journalists after the meeting, Falae's appointment was made directly by Fasoranti with the aim of repositioning the organization.

"Oba Falae's appointment is meant to reinvigorate the organisation with a view to ensuring that the House of Oduduwa is back on track to project the Yoruba mandate," Ajayi stated.

Falae, who is also the Olu of Ilu-Abo in Akure North local government area of Ondo State, has previously served in various high-profile positions in Nigeria's government.

Call for Restructuring

During the meeting, Afenifere reiterated its stance on the need for restructuring Nigeria, expressing concerns over the security challenges and other issues facing the country.

"Since we have subjected these issues to rigorous interrogations severally, we have come to the conclusion that the most potent means of tackling the challenges is Restructuring," Ajayi emphasized.

The group called on the Federal Government under President Bola Tinubu and the National Assembly to urgently set machinery in motion to restructure the country.

Falae's Commitment to Unity

Speaking on his appointment, Falae expressed gratitude to Fasoranti and pledged to unite all factions within Afenifere.

"By the grace of God and with the support of Afenifere and the Yoruba nation, we'll succeed in bringing the other groups, everybody together," he said.

The new chairman further stated his intention to bring all factions of Afenifere together during Fasoranti's lifetime.

Supporting this vision, Afenifere's National Organizing Secretary, Apagun Kole Omololu, expressed confidence that Falae would successfully reunite the group, which has experienced some divisions in recent years.

Political analysts view this appointment as a significant development for the influential Yoruba socio-political organization, which has played a crucial role in Nigeria's political landscape for decades.
