The Nigeria Police Force has identified and summoned officers who were captured in a viral video extorting money from road users, according to a statement from Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi.

In the widely circulated video, the police officers were seen demanding ₦5,000 from each motorist who claimed they were returning from a burial ceremony. One of the officers was observed collecting the money, justifying that the amount was meant for purchasing five liters of fuel.

Responding to the incident on Facebook, FPRO Adejobi strongly condemned the officers' actions, stating: "This action is totally condemned. The officers have been identified and summoned to the force headquarters for necessary action."

He further emphasized the Force's stance against such misconduct, adding, "We will not condone any act of indiscipline and unprofessionalism. We will update the public on our decisions as soon as possible."

This incident comes amid ongoing efforts by the Nigeria Police Force to improve its public image and address concerns about corruption within its ranks. The police leadership has repeatedly stated its commitment to holding officers accountable for misconduct and ensuring professional standards are maintained.

Members of the public have been encouraged to report similar incidents of police misconduct through official channels to help the Force identify and discipline erring officers.
