Carlo Ancelotti, the newly appointed head coach of Brazil's national football team, has released his first squad list, notably omitting several high-profile players including Neymar Jr, Rodrygo, Ederson, and Joelinton.
The Italian tactician unveiled the squad for Brazil's upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Ecuador and Paraguay, marking his first official selection since taking charge of the Selecao.
Neymar's exclusion comes as the forward continues his recovery from injury issues that have plagued his recent career. Despite the omission, Ancelotti has reassured fans that the Santos star remains an integral part of his long-term plans.
"Neymar's out of the list as he's just returned from injury. I spoke to Ney and we've agreed on this," Ancelotti explained during a press conference.
"I trust Neymar, I count on him, we want him to arrive in the best conditions to the World Cup," the coach added, emphasizing his commitment to ensuring the player's optimal fitness for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ancelotti further clarified that other notable absentees like Rodrygo, Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson, and Joelinton were also sidelined due to injury concerns, stating: "Joelinton, Rodrygo, Éderson, Militão are also out due to injury."
This squad announcement marks a significant milestone in Ancelotti's tenure with Brazil, as he transitions from his previous role at Real Madrid, where he was recently replaced by Xabi Alonso.
The Italian manager has previously expressed enthusiasm about his new role, stating: "I can't wait to prepare Brazil for 2026 World Cup in USA."
Brazil's upcoming World Cup qualifiers represent the beginning of Ancelotti's project to restore the five-time world champions to their former glory, with a clear focus on building toward success at the 2026 World Cup.
