The Federal Capital Territory Authority (FCTA) has sealed off the National Secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) located in Zone 5, Abuja, over non-payment of ground rent for 28 years.

The closure was confirmed on Monday by Lere Olayinka, spokesperson to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

"FCTA seals PDP Secretariat in Zone 5 Abuja. It was revoked for not paying ground rent," Olayinka stated.

According to the spokesperson, the property belongs to Senator Samaila Mamman Kurfi, who has reportedly failed to fulfill his ground rent obligations for nearly three decades.

This development comes amid ongoing internal challenges within Nigeria's main opposition party. The PDP has been grappling with leadership issues and factional disputes in recent months.

The sealing of the secretariat is part of a broader enforcement action by the FCTA against property owners with outstanding ground rent payments. Earlier, similar actions were taken against other prominent establishments including Ibro Hotel and some commercial properties in the nation's capital.

Neither the PDP leadership nor Senator Kurfi has issued an official response to the development at the time of this report.

The closure of the party's national headquarters could potentially disrupt its administrative operations and scheduled activities, including a recently postponed National Executive Committee meeting.
