The Federal Capital Territory Authority (FCTA) has sealed off the National Secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) located in Zone 5, Abuja, over unpaid ground rent spanning 28 years.

The closure, which took place on Monday, May 26, 2025, was confirmed by Lere Olayinka, spokesperson to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

According to Olayinka, the property owned by Senator Samaila Mamman Kurfi was revoked after failing to fulfill ground rent obligations for nearly three decades.

"FCTA seals PDP Secretariat in Zone 5 Abuja. It was revoked for not paying ground rent. Senator Samaila Mamman Kurfi, owner of the property, failed to pay Ground Rent for 28 years," Olayinka stated.

This development comes amid ongoing tensions between the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, and the PDP, his former political party. Earlier reports had indicated that the PDP National Secretariat was owing over N7.6 million in ground rent.

The FCTA has recently intensified efforts to recover unpaid ground rents from property owners in the Federal Capital Territory. Similar actions have been taken against other establishments, including Ibro Hotel, which was sealed for non-payment of ground rent for 26 years, as well as some branches of Access Bank and Total Petrol Station.

The PDP has yet to issue an official statement regarding the closure of its National Secretariat. It remains unclear how this will affect the party's operations in the coming days.
