A powerful rainstorm accompanied by strong winds has caused extensive damage across several communities in Kano State, leaving many residents stranded as the rainy season commences in northern Nigeria.

The Kano State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) confirmed on Sunday that it has dispatched officials to Madobi Local Government Area to assess and respond to the damage caused by the severe weather event.

SEMA Executive Secretary, Isiyaku Kubarachi, stated that the agency is taking immediate action following the windstorm. "Similar incidents happened in Tudun Wada, Sumaila and Doguwa local government areas, and now it has happened in Madobi," Kubarachi said.

The areas most severely affected include Madobi town, Unguwar Dawa, Zanta, Bode, Jibga, Rikadawa, Chikawa, Jirgwai, Kubarachi, Bagurau, and Tudun Wada. According to reports, the windstorm destroyed homes, downed power lines, and damaged numerous public structures.

This latest incident follows similar weather-related damages reported earlier in Tudun Wada and Sumaila local governments, indicating a pattern of severe weather as the rainy season begins in the region.

SEMA officials are currently documenting the extent of the damage before determining further action. The agency has not yet released information about casualties or the number of displaced residents.

Residents in the affected areas are advised to take precautionary measures as meteorological forecasts suggest more rainfall in the coming weeks.

The Kano State government is expected to provide relief materials to affected communities once the assessment is complete.
