The Delta State Police Command has announced the arrest of a 30-year-old member of an interstate kidnap gang that has been terrorizing multiple states across Nigeria.

Police spokesperson SP Bright Edafe revealed during a press briefing in Warri on Monday that operatives of the Commissioner of Police Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT) apprehended the suspect on May 20, 2025.

According to Edafe, the suspect is part of a criminal syndicate responsible for kidnappings across Delta, Rivers, Imo, and Enugu States. The suspect, who resides in the Woji area of Port Harcourt, reportedly coordinates the gang's operations along the Ughelli-Ozoro axis in Delta State.

"Acting on credible information and building on the momentum of an earlier breakthrough, the police operatives arrested another suspected kidnapper. This arrest is directly linked to an earlier operation where three members of the gang were apprehended and dangerous weapons recovered from them," Edafe stated.

Following interrogation, the suspect admitted to his role in the criminal organization and led police officers to a forest in Ozoro where the gang's weapons cache was hidden. The police recovered an arsenal that included two AK-47 rifles, 32 rounds of live ammunition, and four AK-47 rifle magazines.

This arrest marks a significant development in the ongoing efforts by Delta State Police Command to combat kidnapping and violent crimes in the region. The operation follows a pattern of intensified police action against criminal gangs operating across state boundaries.

The police have not yet released the identity of the suspect as investigations continue, potentially leading to more arrests of remaining gang members still at large.
