The Delta State Police Command has announced the arrest of a 30-year-old member of an interstate kidnap gang that has been terrorizing multiple states in Nigeria.
Police spokesman SP Bright Edafe revealed during a press briefing in Warri on Monday that operatives of the Commissioner of Police Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT) apprehended the suspect on May 20, 2025.
According to Edafe, the suspect is part of a criminal syndicate responsible for kidnappings across Delta, Rivers, Imo, and Enugu States. The suspect, who resides in the Woji area of Port Harcourt, reportedly coordinates the gang's operations along the Ughelli-Ozoro axis in Delta State.
"Acting on credible information and building on the momentum of an earlier breakthrough, the police operatives arrested another suspected kidnapper. This arrest is directly linked to an earlier operation where three members of the gang were apprehended and dangerous weapons recovered from them," Edafe stated.
Following his arrest, the suspect led police to a forest in Ozoro where the gang's weapons cache was discovered. Items recovered include two AK-47 rifles, 32 rounds of live ammunition, and four AK-47 rifle magazines.
The police spokesman added that the suspect admitted to coordinating the syndicate's operations during interrogation.
This arrest marks a significant breakthrough in the fight against kidnapping in the region, coming at a time when interstate criminal activities have been of growing concern to residents and security agencies alike.
The Delta State Police Command has not yet released information regarding when the suspect will be charged to court, but investigations are ongoing.
