The United States Embassy in Abuja and the Consulate General in Lagos have announced they will temporarily suspend operations on Monday, May 26, 2025, in observance of Memorial Day.

According to a statement released via the US Mission's official X handle, the closure is in recognition of Memorial Day, a significant federal holiday in the United States dedicated to honoring American military personnel who lost their lives while serving their country.

Memorial Day, observed annually on the last Monday in May, is described as a day of national remembrance and reflection in the United States. The holiday is traditionally marked by solemn ceremonies, displays of the national flag, and various tributes across the country to fallen servicemen and women.

As a result of this observance, all routine consular operations at both the embassy in Abuja and the consulate in Lagos will be unavailable throughout the day. Normal services are scheduled to resume on Tuesday, May 27, 2025.

The US Mission has advised individuals requiring urgent consular assistance during the closure to visit its official website for emergency contact information.

This temporary closure affects all routine visa applications, passport services, and other regular consular functions provided by the US diplomatic missions in Nigeria.
