Senator Jarigbe Agom-Jarigbe, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Gas, has expressed optimism that the current crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will not lead to the party's demise, while firmly denying rumors of his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking at a town hall meeting in Obudu, Cross River State on Sunday, the Cross River North Senator reassured his constituents that the internal challenges facing the opposition party would soon be resolved.

"It is true that there are some issues at the national level. But those issues are going to be resolved. The election is not tomorrow. The election is not next week. It is not next year," Agom-Jarigbe stated.

The lawmaker used the town hall meeting to present his scorecard for the past two years in the 10th Assembly, emphasizing that the current period should focus on governance rather than political distractions.

"I don't want us to distract ourselves with all of that. It's time for governance. We have no excuse not to deliver. We want you to hold us accountable," he added.

Addressing the specific concerns within the PDP, Senator Agom-Jarigbe referenced ongoing disputes over the position of National Secretary but maintained confidence in the party's ability to resolve these issues before the next election cycle.

"There are issues surrounding who will be National Secretary and who will not be. But those issues will be resolved. There is nothing like the PDP will not be able to file candidates," he assured.

In a significant development for the PDP in Cross River State, former Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Professor Zana Akpagu, who was present at the town hall meeting, declared his intention to formally join the party. Akpagu expressed satisfaction with the overwhelming support shown for Senator Agom-Jarigbe.

The senator further hinted at plans by the PDP to welcome what he described as "political heavyweights" from the state's APC, suggesting potential shifts in the political landscape of Cross River State ahead of future elections.

During the interactive session, Agom-Jarigbe encouraged his constituents to highlight areas of concern that should receive his attention in the next two years of his tenure, emphasizing his commitment to accountable representation.
