Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe has been confirmed as the winner of the 2024/25 European Golden Shoe award, finishing ahead of Liverpool's Mohamed Salah and Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres.

In his debut season with the Spanish giants, the French international netted an impressive 31 goals in La Liga, earning him 62 points under the Golden Shoe scoring system. The prestigious award recognizes Europe's top goalscorer across all leagues.

Sporting Lisbon's Viktor Gyokeres came in second place with 39 goals in the Portuguese top flight, which translated to 58.5 points. The scoring system awards fewer points per goal in leagues ranked lower than Europe's top five competitions.

Liverpool's Mohamed Salah secured third position with 29 goals and 58 points as the Reds clinched the Premier League title this season. The Egyptian forward has been in exceptional form throughout the campaign.

Mbappe's achievement marks a significant milestone as he becomes only the second French player in history to win the Golden Shoe, following in the footsteps of Arsenal legend Thierry Henry.

Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski, who has 25 goals to his name with one match remaining against Athletic Bilbao on Sunday, will be unable to surpass Mbappe's tally even with a stellar performance in the final fixture.

The European Golden Shoe scoring system awards two points for each goal scored in Europe's top five leagues, while goals in lower-ranked competitions count for one and a half points, explaining why Gyokeres' 39 goals in Portugal translated to fewer points than Mbappe's 31 in Spain.

This prestigious individual accolade adds to Mbappe's growing list of achievements since his high-profile move to Real Madrid, cementing his status as one of world football's elite forwards.
