An early morning accident in the Alausa area of Ikeja, Lagos, left four passengers seriously injured after a commercial bus crashed into a streetlight pole over the weekend. The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed that the incident was allegedly caused by drunk driving.

According to LASTMA officials, the accident involved a fully loaded commercial bus with registration number KTU 69 YJ. The driver, reportedly under heavy influence of alcohol, lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer off course and collide forcefully with roadside infrastructure.

Among the injured were a couple seated in the mid-row of the bus and two other passengers - one male and one female. LASTMA operatives stationed nearby responded swiftly to the emergency, coordinating rescue efforts that involved stabilizing the victims at the scene before transferring them to the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS).

The injured passengers were subsequently transported to the Trauma and Emergency Centre at the Toll Gate for further medical treatment. Officials confirmed that no fatalities were recorded in the incident, and other passengers escaped with minor or no injuries.

Throughout the rescue operation, the Lagos State Police Command, through its Alausa Division, secured the accident site, ensuring smooth emergency response and preserving evidence for further investigation.

LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, strongly condemned the reckless behavior of driving under the influence. He emphasized the agency's commitment to curbing such infractions through ongoing advocacy and intensified monitoring across Lagos motor parks.

"Don't Drink and Drive," Bakare-Oki stressed, noting that LASTMA's Monitoring and Surveillance Unit remains actively engaged in sensitizing commercial drivers on road safety regulations.

The LASTMA General Manager extended his sympathies to the injured passengers and wished them a swift recovery, while urging commuters and drivers alike to prioritize safety at all times.
