The Adamawa State Government has recorded a significant increase in its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), raising it from N7 billion annually in 2019 to N17 billion in 2023, marking a 142% growth over four years.

This remarkable achievement was disclosed by Chiwaren Abubakar, the Special Adviser to Governor Ahmadu Fintiri on Revenue Services, during a live Hausa radio program, 'Jihar Mu a Yau', broadcast on Adamawa Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) in Yola.

Abubakar, who is also an economist and the chief executive officer of Chiwaren Foundation, attributed the impressive revenue growth to the government's commitment to development, effective blocking of revenue leakages, and strategic infrastructural investments across the state.

"When Governor Fintiri took office in 2019, the state was generating only N7 billion as annual IGR. Through dedicated efforts and prudent management, we have more than doubled this figure to N17 billion by 2023," Abubakar stated during the program, which was sponsored by the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on New Media, Alhaji Muhammad Tukur.

He further explained that the increased revenue has enabled the Fintiri administration to embark on various development projects, including road construction and other critical infrastructure, as well as implement welfare packages that directly benefit citizens across the state.

According to Abubakar, the state government expects even higher revenue generation in 2024, though the official figures are still being compiled.

Following the radio program, Abubakar was given a tour of both the ABC Yola transmission station and broadcasting house by the General Manager of the corporation, Alhaji Abdulnasir Ali. During the tour, Ali highlighted recent technological upgrades at the station, noting that the supply of new equipment by the state government had enabled the digitalization of the radio station, expanding its coverage to reach the entire state.

The substantial increase in Adamawa's IGR represents a significant milestone in the state's journey toward financial self-sufficiency and reduced dependence on federal allocations, positioning it for sustainable economic growth and development.
