President Bola Tinubu has officially appointed Yazid Shehu Umar Danfulani as the new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Agricultural Insurance Corporation (NAIC).

The appointment, which takes effect from May 21, 2025, was formalized through a letter dated May 22, 2025, signed by Senator George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).

According to the official communication, Danfulani's appointment is for an initial four-year term, in compliance with Section 15(a) of the NAIC Act, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

Background of the New NAIC Chief

Danfulani, who holds the traditional title of Turakin Zamfara, brings significant experience to his new role. He is a seasoned administrator and banker with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration and a Master's degree in Arts and Management from the University of Hertfordshire in the United Kingdom.

His professional background includes notable positions at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). He previously served as Commissioner for Commerce and Industry in Zamfara State, further enhancing his credentials for this federal appointment.

Expectations and Responsibilities

The Nigerian Agricultural Insurance Corporation plays a crucial role in the nation's agricultural sector by providing insurance coverage against various risks including drought, pests, diseases, and other natural disasters that could affect farming activities.

In his new capacity, Danfulani is expected to bring fresh vigor and strategic direction to NAIC. His appointment has been widely received as recognition of his leadership qualities, technical expertise, and commitment to national development.

Key focus areas for the new MD will include strengthening the insurance framework for Nigerian farmers, expanding access to agricultural insurance services, and ensuring NAIC effectively contributes to the country's food security strategy.

The appointment letter specified that Danfulani's emoluments and service conditions will be guided by the provisions of the "Certain Political, Public and Judicial Office Holders (Salaries and Allowances, etc) (Amendment) Act, 2008".
