Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has launched a scathing attack on Luke Shaw following the player's controversial comments after their Europa League final defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

Manchester United suffered a 1-0 loss to Tottenham in Bilbao on Wednesday, ending their hopes of Champions League qualification next season and capping off what has been a disastrous campaign under manager Ruben Amorim.

Following the defeat, Shaw, who is rumored to be among several players departing Old Trafford this summer, publicly questioned his teammates' abilities, suggesting they needed to reconsider whether they were good enough to represent the club.

Speaking on The Overlap, Neville condemned Shaw's remarks, stating: "Luke, it's not your job to determine that, the manager will determine that. You've got to wipe out every single player in that dressing room who doesn't believe that they have got total and utter confidence to play for that football club."

The former England international further emphasized that the current squad appears overwhelmed by the magnitude of Manchester United as a club, directly addressing the manager: "Ruben, you've got to get a grip of that club."

Manchester United's struggles this season have been unprecedented in the Premier League era. The Red Devils currently sit 16th in the table ahead of Sunday's final round of fixtures, narrowly avoiding relegation and failing to secure European football for next season.

This disappointing campaign comes despite significant investment in the squad and high expectations following Amorim's appointment. The Portuguese manager now faces a crucial summer transfer window where major decisions will need to be made regarding the future of several first-team players.

Neville's comments suggest a complete overhaul may be necessary to restore Manchester United to their former glory, with the club legend clearly frustrated by both performances on the pitch and attitudes off it.
