Tottenham Hotspur have sacked manager Ange Postecoglou despite his recent success in guiding the club to their first major trophy in 17 years, the Europa League title.

BenriNews reports that the Premier League club announced Postecoglou's departure on Friday evening through an official statement on their website, where they wished the 59-year-old all the best for the future.

The shocking decision comes just weeks after Tottenham's 1-0 victory over Manchester United in the Europa League final in Bilbao, which ended the club's 17-year trophy drought.

Postecoglou Responds to Dismissal

Following the announcement, Postecoglou released a statement expressing pride in his achievements during his tenure at the North London club.

"When I reflect on my time as Manager of Tottenham Hotspur my overriding emotion is one of pride," Postecoglou stated. "The opportunity to lead one of England's historic football clubs and bring back the glory it deserves will live with me for a lifetime."

He added: "That night in Bilbao was the culmination of two years of hard work, dedication and unwavering belief in a dream. We have also laid foundations that mean this club should not have to wait 7 more years for their next success."

"I want to thank those who were with me every day for the last two years. A fantastic group of young men who are now legends of this football club."

Brief but Impactful Tenure

Postecoglou joined Tottenham from Scottish giants Celtic on a four-year deal, but his time at the club has been cut short despite delivering European success. Under his guidance, Spurs ended their trophy drought with the Europa League victory, which had been the club's first major silverware since their League Cup triumph in 2008.

The Australian manager's dismissal has raised eyebrows across the football world, particularly given the timing after such a significant achievement for the club.

Tottenham are yet to announce Postecoglou's successor, leaving fans and pundits speculating about the direction the club will take moving forward.

The decision also means Postecoglou will not have the opportunity to lead Tottenham in the UEFA Super Cup against Paris Saint-Germain, a match that was set to be another highlight for the club following their Europa League success.
