The Nigerian Police Force, Jigawa State Command has successfully rescued an 80-year-old woman, Hajia Hajara, after neutralizing five suspected kidnappers during a firefight, State Commissioner of Police, CP A.T. Abdullahi announced on Thursday.

During a press briefing at the command headquarters in Dutse, CP Abdullahi revealed that the victim had been abducted from her home in Minjibir Local Government Area of neighboring Kano State by armed men on motorcycles.

"Following the report, personnel were mobilized and the victim was rescued unhurt and reunited with her family," the Commissioner stated. He further explained that during the operation, five suspects were killed while five others were arrested.

The police also recovered significant weaponry during the operation, including two AK-47 rifles, one Multipurpose Machine Gun, 14 live ammunition rounds, and other exhibits.

CP Abdullahi commended the officers and men of the Gumel and Ringim Area Commands for their bravery and diligence during the rescue operation. He also acknowledged the contributions of local vigilantes, hunters, and Yan Bulala groups who assisted in the successful mission.

The Commissioner confirmed that some of the arrested suspects have already been charged to court, while others are currently assisting the police with ongoing investigations.

This operation represents a significant success in the fight against kidnapping, which has become increasingly prevalent across several northern Nigerian states in recent years.
