Lagos has emerged as the world's fastest-growing tech ecosystem in 2025, according to a recent report by Netherlands-based research firm Dealroom.co, surpassing major tech hubs like Istanbul, Turkey, and Pune, India.

The Global Tech Ecosystem Index 2025 report highlights Lagos' remarkable achievement, attributing its top position to the city's growing reputation as home to five unicorns – Interswitch, Flutterwave, Jumia, OPay, and Moniepoint.

"This year, Lagos is topping the list, having created 5 unicorns and grown its ecosystem valuation 11.6x since 2017 despite a smaller economy," the report stated.

Istanbul secured the second position on the list, while Pune ranked third, establishing these cities as significant players in the global tech landscape. According to Dealroom.co, these emerging tech hubs are fostering a new generation of technology companies that are reshaping the global digital economy.

The recognition comes as a significant boost to Nigeria's tech sector, which has been gaining international attention despite economic challenges. Lagos' rise to prominence reflects the growing innovation and entrepreneurial spirit in Africa's most populous nation.

Industry experts suggest that Lagos' tech ecosystem benefits from a combination of factors, including a large youth population, increasing smartphone penetration, and growing investor interest in African startups.

The report underscores the potential of emerging markets to compete with established tech hubs in Europe, Asia, and North America, pointing to a more diverse and inclusive global tech landscape in the coming years.
