An Ikeja Magistrates' Court has ordered the remand of two men, Olaitan Fasasi, 40, and Kehinde Tobilola, 26, at a correctional facility following their arraignment for attempted murder and alleged involvement in cult-related activities.
The suspects were brought before the court on Thursday by the Lagos State Police, facing a three-count indictment that includes attempted murder and membership of an unlawful society.
According to prosecuting counsel, Josephine Ikhayere, the duo, along with other accomplices still at large, committed the offences on February 15, 2025, around 5:00 p.m. in the Mushin area of Lagos State.
Ikhayere told the court that the defendants were armed with a locally made firearm and attempted to murder one Alfred Ademola by firing at him.
The prosecution further noted that the charges contravene Sections 230(1) and 411 of the Lagos State Criminal Law, as well as Section 2(3) (a)(b)(c)(d) of the Unlawful Societies and Cultism (Prohibition) Law of Lagos State.
Presiding Magistrate, Lateef Owolabi, directed that the case file be forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice and adjourned the case to May 21, 2025, for further hearing.
The court's decision comes amid ongoing efforts by Lagos State authorities to combat cultism and violent crimes in various parts of the metropolis.
