Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe is reportedly set to inherit Luka Modric's iconic number 10 shirt following the Croatian midfielder's announced departure from the Spanish giants.
According to BeIN Sports, Mbappe, who currently wears the number 9 jersey and plays as a striker for Carlo Ancelotti's side, will succeed Modric as the new number 10 from next season.
Modric recently announced he will leave Real Madrid at the end of the FIFA Club World Cup, bringing an end to his illustrious career with the European powerhouse that has spanned over a decade.
The French superstar, who joined Los Blancos last summer from Paris Saint-Germain, has enjoyed an impressive debut season at the Santiago Bernabeu. By changing his shirt number after his first season, Mbappe will be following in the footsteps of his idol Cristiano Ronaldo, who also switched numbers during his time at the club.
While Mbappe appears to be the frontrunner for the prestigious number 10 jersey, other Real Madrid stars including Jude Bellingham and Arda Guler could also be considered for the shirt.
The number 10 shirt holds significant prestige at Real Madrid, having been worn by numerous club legends throughout its storied history. Mbappe's potential inheritance of this iconic jersey further solidifies his status as one of the club's most important players moving forward.
