In a demonstration of swift response to criminal activities, police operatives in Katsina State successfully foiled a kidnapping attempt and rescued three victims in Unguwar Dahiru, Funtua Local Government Area.

The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, May 22, 2025, around 11:00 p.m., saw armed men suspected to be bandits invade the community and abduct three residents before security forces intervened.

According to police sources cited by Zagazola Makama, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Makera Division promptly mobilized the Area Patrol Command (APC) team upon receiving reports of the abduction. The team pursued the kidnappers and engaged them in a tactical operation that resulted in the successful rescue of all three victims.

The victims, who sustained leg injuries during the confrontation, were immediately transported to the General Hospital Funtua for medical attention. Hospital sources indicate they are currently receiving treatment and responding positively.

This rescue operation comes amid intensified efforts by security agencies to combat the rising wave of banditry and kidnapping in Nigeria's northwestern states. Katsina, which shares a border with Niger Republic, has been particularly affected by these security challenges in recent years.

Security forces have launched a manhunt for the fleeing assailants as part of broader efforts to curb banditry and restore peace in the region. The successful operation highlights the importance of prompt response and community cooperation in addressing security threats.

Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies to enhance collaborative efforts in combating criminal elements in the state.
