A 33-year-old farmer, Terhemen Lorlumun, has been remanded at the Makurdi Correctional Centre by a Magistrates' Court in Makurdi for alleged criminal conspiracy and armed robbery.

Lorlumun, who hails from Mbaagea Ikyurav-ya in Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State, was arrested by officers of the Benue Police Command following a tip-off.

During Friday's court proceedings, Magistrate Adah Jack did not take the defendant's plea due to lack of jurisdiction. The case has been adjourned to June 23 for mention.

According to Police Prosecutor Inspector James Ewaoche, the case was reported by one Nule Desmond of Makurdi at the Adikpo Police Station. The complainant stated that he had hired a motorcyclist, Lorlaha Terungwa, to transport him to Jato-Aka via Ikyogen.

The prosecutor told the court that the motorcyclist allegedly conspired with Agusana Terkimbi and the defendant, Lorlumun Terhemen, to rob the complainant at gunpoint.

The victim was reportedly robbed of N1,000,000, a Nigerian Bar Association ID card, Union Bank ATM cards, a small handbag, driver's license, clothes valued at N15,000, a Tecno Spark 5 Pro phone worth N54,000, a Tecno Spark 7 phone valued at N78,000, and gold worth N840,000.

During police investigation, the defendant was arrested, and several items were recovered, including N22,300 in cash, a bag containing clothes, the motorcycle allegedly used in committing the crime, and a bag of charms.

The prosecutor further revealed that the defendant confessed to selling the stolen raw gold to an individual identified only as DJ Soul Man.

The offense allegedly committed by the defendant contravenes sections 6(b) and 1(1)(2)(a)(b) of the Robbery and Firearms Special Provision Act, 2004.

Inspector Ewaoche informed the court that investigations are still ongoing and requested another date for mention of the case.
