The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has officially denied arresting and detaining Blossom Williams, a social media influencer and mother of three, following widespread reports that she was taken into custody at the behest of Daniel Eyakenyi, son of the state's Deputy Governor.
Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria on Friday, Police Public Relations Officer Timfon John stated categorically: "We are not aware of such detention for now."
According to family sources, Williams, who is currently pregnant, was allegedly forcefully detained while en route to a medical appointment in Uyo. The family has claimed the purported arrest was politically motivated, citing Williams' outspoken advocacy for good governance and the rights of marginalized communities in Oro Nation as the likely reason behind the incident.
The reported detention sparked significant public outcry both within and outside Akwa Ibom State, with numerous critics and commentators demanding her immediate release and a thorough investigation into those responsible for her alleged ordeal.
Williams, known for her vocal stance on political and social issues affecting the state, has garnered substantial support from the public following reports of her alleged detention. Her status as a pregnant mother of three has further intensified public concern over the situation.
The police denial comes amid growing tension surrounding the case, with civil society organizations and human rights activists closely monitoring developments. As of press time, no further official statements have been issued regarding Williams' whereabouts or the circumstances surrounding the allegations.
