Former Sokoto State Deputy Governor, Muktar Shagari, has declared that the North will fully support President Bola Tinubu's re-election bid in 2027, citing the president's strong performance particularly in addressing security challenges.
Speaking during an interview on Arise Television's Morning Show on Friday, Shagari emphasized that the All Progressives Congress (APC) has "absolute confidence" in Tinubu's leadership capabilities and believes he deserves a second term to fully implement his promised programs.
"The President is doing everything he can to make this country better, and results are now being seen that the country is gradually moving, and I believe we'll get there," Shagari stated.
Addressing concerns about northern support for Tinubu in the upcoming elections, the former deputy governor dismissed suggestions that the region might not back the president. "In the north, we have nothing against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He's doing very well in the area of security. I can tell security is getting better and better," he affirmed.
Shagari further explained that the APC's recent endorsements at both the North-West regional and national levels were constitutionally appropriate. He expressed confidence that the party would provide Tinubu with all necessary moral and political support to secure victory in 2027.
"So for President Tinubu to be able to implement the programs he promised Nigerians, he needs a second term, and we in the APC believe in him, and we believe that he has the ability and capability to do that," Shagari emphasized.
The former deputy governor also defended the administration's economic reforms, suggesting that the president had inherited significant challenges that required "drastic decisions" but was now steering the country in the right direction.
Shagari's comments come amid ongoing debates about regional politics and the performance of the Tinubu administration as it approaches the midpoint of its first term.
