Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has revealed that "one focus and one target" were crucial factors behind their 1-0 victory over Manchester United in Wednesday's Europa League final in Bilbao.

The North London club secured their first major European trophy since 1984 thanks to Brennan Johnson's first-half strike, ending their long wait for silverware and silencing critics who had labeled them a "nearly team" for years.

Speaking after the historic triumph, an emotional Postecoglou struggled to contain his joy: "I can't put it into words to be honest. I know I'm at an amazing football club with amazing supporters," he told NBC Sports.

"It's no secret it's been a tough year, but I've just had these things inside me the back half of the year — one focus, one target. I just felt this was it," the 59-year-old Australian added.

Postecoglou emphasized the significance of the victory for a club that has often fallen short in crucial moments: "To achieve it today... I know what it means to the club, it's had the tag of a nearly team for a long time. The only way you break that is by winning things, and we did that today."

The manager also highlighted how his belief never wavered despite facing numerous challenges throughout the season, particularly with injuries: "I knew I had a massive challenge in front of me, added stress of the injury situation. I have just had this laser focus on, 'I believe we can win something this year.'"

This victory represents Tottenham's first major trophy since their League Cup win in 2008 and their first European success in nearly four decades, marking a significant milestone in Postecoglou's first season at the helm.

For Manchester United, the defeat adds further disappointment to a challenging season under manager Ruben Amorim, with captain Bruno Fernandes addressing speculation about his future at the club following the match.
