Football pundits Alan Shearer and Micah Richards have outlined six crucial signings Manchester United need to make following their disappointing 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in Wednesday's UEFA Europa League final in Bilbao.
Speaking on The Rest is Football podcast after the match, Newcastle United legend Shearer emphasized that the Red Devils need significant reinforcement in four key positions.
"Manchester United need to spend big in 4 positions," Shearer stated. "They need a new goalkeeper, a new centre half, they definitely need some new midfielders and obviously a top striker so there is the four important positions."
Former Manchester City defender Richards agreed with Shearer's assessment but added that Ruben Amorim's squad also requires two new wing-backs to complete the overhaul.
"I think Manchester United need two new wing-backs as well," Richards said. "The big question for me is will players want to go [to Manchester United] and play in that [Ruben Amorim's] system?"
The defeat to Tottenham means Manchester United will end the season without any silverware. More significantly, the club will not participate in any European competitions next season, which could potentially impact their ability to attract top talent during the summer transfer window.
This latest setback adds pressure on the club's management to make strategic signings that can help restore Manchester United to its former glory and compete effectively both domestically and in Europe in the coming seasons.
