The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Taskforce has arrested 41 individuals during a coordinated security operation conducted across strategic locations on Lagos Island in the early hours of Tuesday.
According to a statement released by Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, the agency's Director of Public Affairs, the enforcement exercise began at approximately 1:00 a.m., targeting identified criminal hotspots including Ikoyi, Victoria Island, Falomo, Osborne Road, the Eko Hotel axis, Lekki Road, and Obalende.
"During the exercise, 41 suspects were arrested and sanity was restored," the statement confirmed.
The operation forms part of a broader state-wide initiative by the Lagos State Government aimed at curbing street-level crime and restoring public order across the metropolis. The taskforce specifically targeted miscreants, street urchins, hooligans, pickpockets, and other suspected criminal elements whose activities have been threatening the safety and security of residents and commuters in these areas.
State authorities have reiterated their commitment to sustaining such proactive enforcement efforts to ensure a safer and more secure Lagos for all citizens. The operation underscores the government's zero-tolerance approach to criminal activities that undermine public safety in Nigeria's commercial capital.
This latest crackdown follows increasing concerns about security in key areas of Lagos, particularly in high-profile locations frequented by both residents and tourists. The Lagos Island area, which includes some of the city's most affluent neighborhoods and business districts, has seen heightened security measures in recent months.
Residents have been encouraged to report suspicious activities to relevant authorities as the government continues its efforts to maintain law and order across the state.
