The Imo State House of Assembly has officially confirmed the appointment of Mrs. Anne-Martins Ezirim as the new Deputy Clerk of the State Assembly, filling a critical vacancy that has existed since September 2024.
The motion for her appointment was presented by Hon. Obinna Egu, representing Ngor-Okpala Constituency, who emphasized that the position's requirements are clearly outlined in Section 16 of the Imo State House of Assembly Service Commission Law No. 21 of 2018.
During the session, Hon. Egu informed his colleagues that recent promotions approved by Governor Hope Uzodinma had elevated several staff members from the legislative department, making them eligible to fill the Deputy Clerk position that had remained vacant for approximately eight months.
"This appointment will significantly reduce the workload in the office of the Clerk of the House and enhance service delivery in the legislative bureaucracy," Hon. Egu stated during his presentation to the Assembly.
Following extensive deliberation, the House resolved to officially notify the Chairman of the Imo State House of Assembly Service Commission through the Clerk to take necessary actions in accordance with the provisions of Law No. 21 of 2018 to implement the Assembly's decision.
The appointment comes as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the administrative structure of the Imo State legislature and ensure smooth legislative proceedings, which had been hampered by the absence of a Deputy Clerk since last year.
Political analysts observe that this appointment aligns with Governor Uzodinma's recent administrative reforms aimed at improving governance efficiency across various sectors of the state.
