Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has questioned manager Ruben Amorim's tactical decision to start Mason Mount ahead of Alejandro Garnacho in the Red Devils' UEFA Europa League final defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday.

Tottenham secured a 1-0 victory in Bilbao to lift the Europa League trophy and clinch qualification for next season's Champions League, leaving Manchester United to reflect on what might have been.

Ferdinand, speaking on TNT Sports after the match, was particularly critical of Amorim's selection, highlighting how Garnacho made a significant impact after being introduced in the final 20 minutes of the game.

"That is one thing I will question about the selection today for Man United," Ferdinand stated. "Ruben Amorim was responsible for bringing Mason Mount into that midfield and we didn't have anyone running in behind."

The former England defender emphasized Garnacho's ability to stretch defenses, adding: "Garnacho has done that all season, you can say what you like about his end product and his finishing but he does give you that threat stretching teams and we didn't really see at any point Spurs stretched in that sense."

The Argentine winger has been one of Manchester United's standout performers this season, contributing 11 goals and 10 assists across all competitions. Only captain Bruno Fernandes has outscored him in the squad.

When finally introduced late in the game, Garnacho immediately posed problems for Tottenham's defense, arguably becoming United's most dangerous attacking threat in the closing stages of the final.

The defeat marks another disappointing chapter in Manchester United's season, with questions now being raised about Amorim's tactical approach in what was the club's most important match of the campaign.
