Brazilian football legend Ronaldinho has criticized the decision to award Manchester City's Rodri the 2024 Ballon d'Or instead of his compatriot Vinicius Junior, describing the outcome as "unfair."

In an interview with MARCA, the former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain star voiced his disappointment, stating that Vinicius, who plays for Real Madrid, was more deserving of football's most prestigious individual honor.

"It's unfair that Vini Jr. didn't win the Ballon d'Or," Ronaldinho was quoted as saying. He emphasized that Vinicius "has been dominant in major competitions for years" and "scores important goals to help Real Madrid win trophies," adding emphatically that the forward "DESERVED the Ballon d'Or."

The 2024 award went to Manchester City midfielder Rodri, who played crucial roles in City's Premier League triumph and Spain's European Championship victory. However, many football fans and pundits had expected Vinicius to claim the prize after his outstanding contributions to Real Madrid's La Liga and UEFA Champions League double.

Vinicius Junior had an impressive 2023-24 season, scoring 25 goals in 40 appearances across all competitions for Los Blancos. His performances in high-profile matches and contribution to Real Madrid's success made him a strong contender for the award.

The Ballon d'Or, presented annually by France Football, recognizes the best male footballer in the world. The 2024 decision has sparked debate among football enthusiasts worldwide, with Ronaldinho's comments adding significant weight to the discussion given his status as a former Ballon d'Or winner himself.
