Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, has launched a scathing attack on President Bola Tinubu's administration, describing the president's supporters as "blind and deaf" to the deteriorating security situation and economic hardship plaguing Nigeria.
Speaking on Arise Television's Morning Show on Wednesday, Lawal claimed that insecurity has "grown exponentially" since Tinubu assumed office, expanding to previously unaffected areas across the country.
"I know he has his supporters. His supporters, I think they have cotton wool in their ears, or they are blind, because the insecurity has grown exponentially since the arrival of Bola Tinubu government," Lawal stated.
The former SGF painted a grim picture of Nigeria's economic situation, asserting that poverty has multiplied exponentially under the current administration. According to him, even previously well-off citizens now feel threatened due to what he described as a complete economic collapse.
"We are just surviving by the grace of God on a hand to mouth basis, everybody. So what economy?" Lawal questioned, suggesting that government funds are being spent on "intangible things" without visible results.
In his most damning accusation, Lawal alleged that the Tinubu administration's intention is to "run down this country," claiming that the president had "deceived" Nigerians and is now "in the mood to ruin the economy, to ruin the security of the country."
Lawal's comments come amid growing concerns about Nigeria's economic challenges, including high inflation, currency devaluation, and persistent security issues across multiple regions of the country.
The Presidency has yet to respond to these allegations from the former government official, who once served in the Buhari administration before falling out with the previous government.
