Team Edo has made a remarkable start at the ongoing 2024 National Sports Festival (NSF), tagged "Gateway Games," securing an impressive haul of 18 medals across multiple sporting events in Ogun State.

Since the commencement of the sports competition on May 17, 2025, Edo athletes have demonstrated exceptional skill and determination, winning 3 gold, 7 silver, and 8 bronze medals, primarily in weightlifting and Kung Fu disciplines.

In the weightlifting category, John Aladetun emerged as a standout performer, clinching 2 gold and 1 silver medal in the fiercely contested men's 67 kg division. His teammates further bolstered Edo's medal count with an additional 5 silver and 1 bronze medals, bringing the state's weightlifting total to 2 gold, 6 silver, and 1 bronze.

The Kung Fu competition also yielded significant success for Team Edo, with Kelly Alonge securing a gold medal in the TAHULO category. Other Edo Kung Fu athletes contributed 1 silver and 7 bronze medals to the state's growing tally.

Amadin Enabulele, Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, expressed pride in the athletes' performances, describing their achievements as "a testament to hard work, discipline, and determination."

"We are extremely proud of Team Edo's efforts so far. The athletes have shown exceptional resilience and skill, which reflects the level of preparation they underwent before coming to this festival," Enabulele stated.

He further emphasized the state's commitment to sporting excellence, noting that their goal extends beyond mere participation to domination and victory. "Edo State is committed to sports excellence. Our goal is not just participation, but to dominate and win. We will continue to encourage and reward our athletes as they strive for podium finishes," he added.

As the National Sports Festival continues, Team Edo's early success positions them as strong contenders for overall prominence in the competition, with expectations high for additional medals in the coming days.
