Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has made history by presiding over the first executive council meeting held in the newly inaugurated government house in Awka, ending a 34-year period of operating from temporary facilities.

The landmark meeting, which took place on May 19, 2025, marks the beginning of a phased relocation from the old government house that has served as a makeshift administrative headquarters since the state's creation in 1991.

The new government house complex, described as a "mini city" featuring approximately 37 different buildings within its expansive grounds, was officially inaugurated two weeks ago during a one-day working visit by President Bola Tinubu.

Dr. Law Mefor, Anambra State Commissioner for Information, released a statement highlighting the significance of the occasion: "The 8th ANSEC Meeting of 2025 took place at the new Anambra State Government House Mini City, marking the first-ever meeting held at the permanent location. This historic milestone breaks the 34-year jinx of lacking a permanent Government House."

Prior to this development, Anambra State had been conducting government business from a temporary facility in Awka, while the governor resided in a separate makeshift lodge in Amawbia, a neighboring town.

During the meeting, the Council reportedly reflected on President Tinubu's successful visit, commending Anambra citizens for their hospitality, which "left a lasting impression on the President and his entourage."

Governor Soludo expressed hope that decisions made in the new executive council chambers would promote welfare, unity, security, and prosperity for the people of Anambra, Nigerians, and humanity at large.

The completion and occupation of the permanent government house represents a significant achievement for the Soludo administration, addressing a long-standing infrastructural gap in the state's governance structure.
