Operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, commonly known as Amotekun Corps, have successfully dismantled a syndicate specializing in child trafficking and organ harvesting that has been operating across state lines.
The breakthrough came following the kidnapping of a young boy named Eriponmile from the Ijoka Davog area of Akure, the Ondo State capital. According to Amotekun officials, the child was rescued from a hospital in the eastern part of Nigeria where he had reportedly been prepared for organ harvesting.
Adetunji Adeleye, the Ondo Amotekun Commander who paraded the suspects, detailed the swift operation that led to the child's rescue: "We received a distress call that Eriponmile had been kidnapped and taken away, and we immediately swung into action. Within 48 hours, our indicators showed that Eriponmile was already outside Ondo State."
"We spread out our dragnet, deployed our plainclothes operatives, and by the grace of God, we were able to bring Eriponmile back to Ondo State to be reunited with his mother and father," Adeleye explained.
The commander revealed that the team tracked the boy to a hospital in the eastern region of the country, where he had already been tested and declared medically fit for organ harvesting by one Amaka, who is suspected to be a major player in the gruesome trade.
Three suspects have been arrested in connection with the crime: Amaka Ngozi Ifeanyi, Adaeze Kenneth Etose, and Omolara. Authorities report that two additional suspects remain at large.
According to Amotekun, the syndicate has allegedly stolen numerous children from Ondo State and sold them to accomplices in Anambra State for organ harvesting purposes.
Eriseun Omolewo, father of the rescued boy, expressed gratitude to the Amotekun Corps for their prompt action in rescuing his son from what could have been a tragic fate.
This case highlights the growing concern over child trafficking and organ harvesting in Nigeria, with security agencies intensifying efforts to combat these criminal networks operating across state boundaries.
