A middle-aged man identified as Sola Ojo has been arraigned before an Ekiti State Magistrate Court for allegedly destroying economic trees on disputed land in Omuo-Ekiti.
According to the Ekiti State Police Command, Ojo and his accomplices, who remain at large, allegedly felled valuable economic trees on a piece of land that is currently subject to litigation in another court case. The incident reportedly occurred in April 2025.
Police prosecutors charged Ojo under Section 181(d) of the Ekiti State Criminal Law, 2021, alleging that his actions were not only unlawful but also caused public disorder that risked violence or confusion in the community.
During the court proceedings, the defendant was represented by Barrister J. O. Olajide, who pleaded for bail on behalf of his client. Chief Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun granted the bail request, ordering Ojo to pay the sum of ₦50,000 with a surety of equal amount.
The case has been adjourned to June 17, 2025, for further hearing.
This case highlights the ongoing tensions surrounding land disputes in Ekiti State, where conflicts over property ownership occasionally escalate to property damage and community unrest.
