Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, on Monday led residents in a voluntary day of prayer and fasting aimed at strengthening unity and resilience in the face of persistent security challenges plaguing the state.

The Governor spent Sunday night in Rann, the headquarters of Kala Balge Local Government Area, one of the communities most severely affected by the ongoing insurgency from Boko Haram and ISWAP militants. During his stay, he oversaw security coordination and provided support for both military personnel and civilian volunteer forces operating in the area.

In a statewide broadcast on Saturday, Governor Zulum had called on citizens to observe the fast and join in collective prayers for peace. "In light of our current security challenges, I am calling on all residents of Borno State to unite in a collective act of faith and solidarity," he said. "This Monday, I invite you to join me in a voluntary day of fasting and prayer for peace to reign in Borno State, Northeast Nigeria, and indeed the entire country."

Following the observance, the Governor expressed gratitude to participants, noting that "thousands joined the prayers, both within and outside Borno. We thank everyone for their solidarity and belief in the power of collective prayer."

As part of ongoing efforts to enhance security in the region, Governor Zulum announced the approval of 10 patrol vehicles to aid frontline operations. Six Toyota Hilux vehicles will be allocated to the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), hunters, and vigilantes, while four gun-trucks will be provided to the military.

The Governor's visit to Kala Balge also included humanitarian assistance, with food relief packages distributed to over 10,000 families. The distribution prioritized women and vulnerable households as part of the state's continuing support for communities affected by the conflict.

Kala Balge residents have faced regular disruptions to daily life and ongoing threats to their safety due to its strategic location, making it a frequent target for insurgent activities. The Governor's presence in this high-risk area underscores his hands-on approach to addressing the security and humanitarian challenges facing the state.

The day of prayer and fasting represents a significant spiritual response to the security challenges that have plagued Borno State for over a decade, highlighting the role of faith and community solidarity in the ongoing efforts to restore peace to the region.
