Former Enugu State Commissioner for Lands and Urban Development, Professor Victor Nnam, has launched a scathing attack on Hon. Ikechukwu Ezeugwu, the former Leader of the Enugu State House of Assembly, following Ezeugwu's resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Ezeugwu had resigned from the PDP over the weekend, citing internal discontent with the party's operations in a letter addressed to the PDP Ward Chairman in Udenu Local Government Area. He alleged that the party leadership had betrayed its values, claiming that "merit was frequently sacrificed on the altar of mediocrity and deceit."

In his resignation letter, Ezeugwu also stated: "I thank God for giving me the wisdom to reject a gift of a Trojan Horse then. I was slated to have been economically grounded and politically ridiculed, but they forgot that my name is Ikechukwu."

Responding to these claims in a statement on Monday, Professor Nnam accused Ezeugwu of hypocrisy and questioned his timing in speaking out only after leaving office.

"He is just a sycophant who shouldn't be taken seriously. If not, why is he crying foul now? Why didn't he tell the world since 2022?" Nnam questioned.

The former commissioner further challenged Ezeugwu's motives: "One wonders why Ikechukwu Ezeugwu suddenly found his voice and started attacking the man who made him. Why is he attacking an administration he was fully part of?"

Nnam highlighted Ezeugwu's political career, suggesting it was largely due to former Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi's support. "Without former governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, who is Ikechukwu Ezeugwu? The former governor made him and even gave him a third-term ticket against the zoning arrangement in Udenu," he stated.

Addressing allegations that the PDP had deceived Ezeugwu into undertaking constituency projects in exchange for a return ticket, Nnam responded: "So a third-term House member needs to be deceived before he can empower his own people? That's laughable."

The former commissioner also criticized Ezeugwu's 12-year legislative record, claiming his constituency projects included "the construction of just two bus stops in Udenu Local Government Area, a modest contribution considering the length of his service."

Nnam further alleged that Ezeugwu once sponsored a controversial bill seeking pension benefits for former governors and their deputies, which was eventually dropped following public outrage.

According to Nnam, Ezeugwu's resignation from the PDP stems from personal frustration after being denied a fourth term in the House. "Now, he appears to be shifting blame onto Gburugburu for his political exit," Nnam stated.

The former commissioner concluded by claiming that Ezeugwu was "the highest beneficiary of the past administration" and that "even the Speaker of the House did not receive the kind of benefits Ikechukwu Ezeugwu enjoyed as a member."

As of the time of this report, Hon. Ezeugwu has not responded to Professor Nnam's allegations.
