The Nasarawa State Government has received ₦9.54 billion from the Federal Government as reimbursement for the handover of the Lafia Cargo Airport, now officially renamed Usman Dan Fodio Airport.
Governor Abdullahi Sule made this announcement on Monday during a high-level stakeholders' forum at the Government House in Lafia, marking the successful conclusion of the state's persistent efforts to secure repayment for funds expended on the airport's construction.
The airport, which was inaugurated three years ago by former President Muhammadu Buhari, was taken over by the Federal Government in 2022. Since then, Governor Sule's administration has been actively pursuing the reimbursement of construction costs.
"We have finally received the ₦9.54 billion reimbursement from the Federal Government for the Usman Dan Fodio Airport," Governor Sule told the gathering, which included traditional leaders and members of the National Assembly who played crucial roles in securing federal approval for the refund.
The governor expressed appreciation to all stakeholders who supported the state's efforts to secure the reimbursement, particularly acknowledging the contributions of National Assembly members present at the meeting.
Participants at the forum commended Governor Sule for his transparency and commitment to development. The discussions also centered on strategic plans to utilize the funds for infrastructure development across the state, with special emphasis on rural road construction and other capital projects aimed at improving accessibility and stimulating economic activities in remote areas.
The reimbursement is expected to significantly boost Nasarawa State's development agenda, providing much-needed financial resources for critical infrastructure projects that will benefit residents across the state.
