Former Real Madrid forward Fernando Morientes has urged Cristiano Ronaldo to return to his boyhood club Sporting CP and end his illustrious career where it all began.

Ronaldo, now 40, is approaching a critical juncture in his career as his current contract with Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr is set to expire next month, with no confirmation yet on a potential renewal.

Recent reports suggest the Portuguese superstar might be considering cutting ties with Al-Nassr to embark on a new chapter, with speculation linking him to clubs in Brazil and a potential return to Sporting CP, where he began his professional journey.

Speaking to CasinoHawks, as reported by GOAL, Morientes shared his thoughts on Ronaldo's future: "I think when a player of that age joins the Saudi Pro League, it's to finish his professional footballing career and begin retirement."

"I don't know if he has any special motivation to wear a shirt; for example, Sporting Lisbon's was where he started. Obviously, Real Madrid's [return] is almost impossible now," the Spanish football legend added.

Morientes expressed his admiration for players who complete the circle by returning to their first clubs: "I like to see him where I see him, and I would like him to retire wherever he wants to. I really like those players who start out with one team and end up retiring there."

However, he remained uncertain about Ronaldo's personal motivations, stating, "I don't know if Cristiano would've that motivation to do so at Sporting."

Ronaldo joined Al-Nassr in December 2022 following his controversial exit from Manchester United. Despite his advanced age, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner has maintained impressive form in Saudi Arabia, continuing to demonstrate his exceptional goal-scoring abilities.

As speculation about his future intensifies, football fans worldwide will be watching closely to see if the Portuguese icon chooses to return to his roots or pursue other opportunities in the twilight of his remarkable career.
