Two persons have been confirmed dead following a bandit attack on Matsai community in Kaita Local Government Area of Katsina State on Sunday night.
According to security analyst Bakatsine, who shared information about the incident on social media platform X on Monday, armed bandits invaded the village, opening fire on residents, resulting in two fatalities and one injury.
"Last night, bandits invaded the Matsai community in Kaita LGA, Katsina State. They killed two people, injured one and looted several valuable things during the invasion," Bakatsine wrote.
The attackers reportedly carted away household valuables and caused widespread panic among villagers during the assault. As of the time of this report, authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.
Kaita Local Government Area, which shares a border with the Niger Republic, has experienced recurring bandit attacks in recent years, highlighting the persistent security challenges facing communities in the region.
This attack adds to the growing concern about insecurity in Katsina State and other northwestern states of Nigeria, where banditry has become increasingly prevalent despite government efforts to address the situation.
