Troops of the Nigerian Army under Operation FANSAN YANMA have successfully repelled coordinated bandit attacks in Zamfara State's Maru and Tsafe Local Government Areas on Friday, May 17, 2025.

According to security reports, the first attack occurred around 9:30 AM when armed bandits stormed Keta Town in Tsafe LGA, firing indiscriminately. Army troops responded swiftly, engaging the attackers in a fierce gun battle that eventually forced the bandits to retreat.

In a separate incident later that day at approximately 3:30 PM, another group of bandits invaded Dankurji Village in Unguwar Galadima, located in Dansadau District of Maru LGA. During this attack, 28-year-old Malam Audu was tragically killed before the assailants fled the area.

A 12-year-old girl identified as Fatima Ibrahim sustained injuries during the firefight and was immediately evacuated to a medical facility, where she is currently receiving treatment and recovering.

Military sources confirmed that no casualties were recorded among the security forces during both operations. The Nigerian Army continues to maintain a strong presence in the affected regions to deter further attacks and restore peace to the communities.

This latest security intervention comes amid ongoing concerns about banditry in Zamfara State, which has seen numerous attacks on rural communities in recent months. Operation FANSAN YANMA, a specialized military initiative, continues its efforts to combat armed banditry and restore normalcy to affected areas.

Local authorities have commended the prompt response of the military and urged residents to remain vigilant while cooperating with security agencies by reporting suspicious activities in their communities.
