Former Tottenham Hotspur player Darren Bent has advised Liverpool to target Inter Milan's Denzel Dumfries instead of Bayer Leverkusen's Jeremie Frimpong as they look to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold at right-back.
Liverpool are in the market for a new right-back following Alexander-Arnold's announcement that he will leave Anfield at the end of the 2024/25 season. The 26-year-old England international is set to join Real Madrid on a free transfer when his contract expires.
Speaking to talkSPORT amid Liverpool's reported interest in Frimpong, Bent expressed his preference for the Inter Milan defender: "You know who I'd like [Liverpool] to get at right back and I don't think they would be able to get him but I've liked him for a long time and I think he's incredible. Dumfries! But it is going to cost you."
Both players have impressed for their respective clubs this season. Frimpong has contributed five goals and twelve assists across all competitions for Bayer Leverkusen, while Dumfries has been even more productive with ten goals and six assists for Inter Milan.
The search for Alexander-Arnold's replacement comes as Liverpool prepare for their first season under new manager Arne Slot, who faces the challenging task of rebuilding following the departure of one of the club's key players.
Alexander-Arnold's move to Real Madrid marks the end of an era at Liverpool, where he established himself as one of the world's premier attacking full-backs and played a crucial role in the club's Premier League and Champions League successes under Jürgen Klopp.
