The lawmaker representing Zango Kataf and Jaba Federal Constituency, Hon. Amos Gwamna, has made an urgent appeal to the federal government to expedite the construction of a critical bridge across River Kaduna in Zango Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The unfinished infrastructure project has gained renewed attention due to its strategic importance in connecting several communities that have been repeatedly targeted by bandits, including Kigudu, Kampani, Chibob, and Sabon Kaura.
In an interview with AIT News, Gwamna emphasized that the bridge is vital for enabling rapid deployment of security forces during emergencies in the affected areas.
"The completion of this bridge is not just an infrastructure project; it is a security imperative," Gwamna stated. "The current situation has significantly hampered the ability of security personnel to respond swiftly to distress calls from communities under attack."
Beyond security concerns, the lawmaker highlighted the economic benefits that would accompany the bridge's completion. He noted that the infrastructure would enhance access to farmlands, promote irrigation activities, and stimulate agricultural productivity in the region.
Describing the current state of road infrastructure in the area as "deplorable," Gwamna warned that continued delays in completing the bridge have already resulted in the loss of lives and property due to inadequate security response times.
The appeal comes amid increasing concerns about banditry in Kaduna State, with several communities in the southern part of the state experiencing repeated attacks in recent months.
Gwamna urged the federal government to prioritize the project and act without further delay, emphasizing that the bridge represents a critical component in the broader strategy to address insecurity in the region.
