The Zamfara State House of Assembly has passed a bill to amend the state's Persons with Disabilities Law No. 5 of 2022, marking a significant step toward enhancing the rights and inclusion of persons with disabilities in the state.
The amendment bill, which was submitted by Hon. Yakubu Almajir, Chairman of the House Committee on Social Welfare, aims to promote accessibility and inclusion of persons with disabilities across all aspects of life in Zamfara State.
In the same legislative session, the Assembly also passed another significant bill to repeal and re-enact the Zamfara State College of Agriculture and Animal Science Law of 2000. This bill, presented by Hon. Mustapha Usman, Chairman of the House Committee on Agriculture, proposes to rename the institution as the Zamfara State College of Agriculture and Technology.
The re-enactment reflects the institution's expanded mandate and modernization efforts to meet current educational and technological standards in agricultural education.
Both bills received their third and final readings, administered by the Clerk to the House, Alhaji Mahmud Aliyu, before being passed. Following parliamentary procedure, the bills have now been forwarded to the Executive Governor of Zamfara State for assent.
These legislative actions demonstrate the Zamfara State government's commitment to improving social welfare for vulnerable populations and enhancing educational infrastructure in the agricultural sector, which remains vital to the state's economy.
