The Taraba State Police Command has apprehended two suspects and recovered six locally fabricated firearms during a coordinated operation targeting criminal activities in Karim Lamido Local Government Area.
According to a statement released on Friday by the Command's spokesperson, James Leshen, the joint operation was conducted on Tuesday, May 14, 2025, at approximately 12:00 p.m. The operation involved personnel from the Anti-Kidnapping Squad, the 40 PMF, and the Karim Lamido Division, under the leadership of CSP Ayuba Yohanna.
The police action was prompted by a series of violent clashes between farmers and herders in the region. The tactical team stormed a Fulani settlement in Wuro Guga, through Jen, which was suspected to be a meeting point for herders allegedly involved in attacks on Munga Dosso and Bandawa villages.
"These attacks, which occurred on three separate occasions, reportedly left about ten people dead," the statement explained.
Upon the arrival of the police team, suspects fled into the surrounding forest. A subsequent search of the area led to the recovery of six locally made firearms, including one locally made revolver pistol, one locally made revolver gun, four single-barrel guns, and nine cartridges.
Additionally, two individuals were apprehended while attempting to burn down huts abandoned by Fulani residents who had been displaced by the ongoing conflict.
The Command confirmed that investigations are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects, and efforts are being intensified to restore peace and normalcy in the affected areas.
Expressing satisfaction with the operation, the Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Bretet, praised the operatives for their swift and professional response. He reaffirmed the Command's commitment to maintaining law and order while issuing a stern warning that criminals and troublemakers would face the full weight of the law.
