The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended five suspects in connection with the abduction and trafficking of a two-week-old baby who was sold for N3 million. The arrests followed an extensive investigation conducted by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).

According to police reports, the case was initially reported on May 5, 2025, at the Ajah Police Division by a concerned citizen who noticed the sudden disappearance of his 16-year-old pregnant cousin, identified only as Miss Happiness.

Investigations revealed that due to financial hardship, the complainant's mother had temporarily placed the pregnant teenager in the care of one Nonye Osi. Rather than providing support, Osi allegedly conspired with accomplices to relocate the minor to an undisclosed location. When the girl was eventually found, both her pregnancy and newborn baby were missing, prompting authorities to transfer the case to the SCID for a more thorough investigation.

Five Suspects Arrested

The five suspects arrested in connection with the crime have been identified as Nonye Osi, Akintan Adedayo, Jimoh Bashiru, Elizabeth Bishop, and Bukola Oladapo. Through diligent detective work, police operatives were able to trace and recover the infant from Agemuwo in the Badagry area of Lagos State.

The child was found in stable condition and is currently receiving care from the Gender/Anti-Human Trafficking Unit. Authorities have confirmed plans to reunite the baby with his biological mother.

The Lagos State Police Command has reiterated its commitment to safeguarding all residents and assured the public that efforts are ongoing to ensure all individuals involved in the crime face justice.

This case highlights the persistent issue of child trafficking in Nigeria, where vulnerable minors and their babies are exploited due to economic hardship and other social factors. The police have urged citizens to report suspicious activities related to child exploitation to help combat this menace.
