The Adamawa State Police Command has apprehended a 22-year-old commercial tricyclist, Habubakar Umar, for allegedly defiling four underage boys in Yola North local government area of the state.

According to a statement released on Thursday by the command's spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje, the suspect was arrested on May 14, 2025, by operatives attached to the State Intelligence Department (SID).

The victims, all male children between the ages of 8 and 9 years, were allegedly sodomized by Umar, a resident of Rumde Baru in Yola North local government area.

The police spokesman revealed that the arrest followed a complaint lodged by the father of two of the victims. The father had hired the suspect to transport his children to school, but Umar allegedly took advantage of this arrangement to lure the children and sexually abuse them on multiple occasions.

"The suspect confessed to committing the crime and blamed it on the devil," Nguroje stated in the release.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Dankombo Morris, has condemned the incident and directed that the case be thoroughly investigated and charged to court without delay.

"The command remains committed to protecting the rights of children and urges parents and guardians to be vigilant and report people of suspicious character to the nearest police stations," the police spokesperson emphasized.

This case highlights the growing concern over child abuse in Nigeria and the importance of parental vigilance when entrusting children to the care of others, even for routine activities like school transportation.
